A Job to be Done

It probably hasn't slipped your attention that U2 are one of the most popular bands in the world and last week they played a great concert in Sweden that I attended. Within just over two hours 110.00 tickets were sold and it was an amazing experience. While my father drove me to the airport I sat in the backseat of our Toyota that has this big bumper sticker with the words dsa written all over it. I sat there playing Grand Theft auto while my father was entering the digits into his newly purchased GPA system that he installed in the car. it was a cheap little GPA that he bought from a sale that an electronic store was advertising before they closed down and started selling off every item at around 60% off the original price.

If you didn't already know my father, he really loved taking the car out for long peaceful drives on the weekend to get away from my mother's constant complaining. He was a self employed entrepreneur offering cheap driving instructor courses to people that wanted to gain the qualifications to start teaching others. My father used to always want me to start working for him and even try to sell his driving instructor courses to people I knew and in return I would gain a certain percentage off whatever he made. He wasn't filthy rich or anything but he made enough money to provide for both me and my mother when we needed some extra cash. He even payed for my trip to Sweden to see U2 live and this was just one of the many things that made me feel guilty for not helping him out with his business. I never believed you could make any money selling guides for driving instructor courses let alone make a living out if. Maybe my father was in fact a genius and I was missing out on a possible goldmine here.

Once we arrived at the airport my father helped me unload my suitcases before heading back off to drive that 2 hour journey back to my house just in time to cook my mother dinner. As I opened my hand luggage just to double check everything was there and that I hadn't forgotten anything I noticed a dark brown envelope with my name written in dark blue ink just starring at me. I picked it up and found £200 inside with a little note from my father saying "Have a great time". I decided there and then when I arrived back home to England I was gonna join my father and start selling driving instructor courses for a living. He was my idol.
